As part of Bucks New University’s commitment to providing the students the support they need with their university life, they have created the Big Deal. It’s a package of benefits offered only for their students which will make their stay with the university worthwhile. With the Big Deal, Bucks’ students can experience and join free recreational activities, sports activities, special events, students’ societies, skills workshops, and the group of paid student representatives.
Recreational activities: Currently, students have access to activities such as singing lessons with a professional singing teacher,
fitness classes at the Gateway Gym such as group cycling and Zumba, and life drawing classes with an art tutor. Some activities are in a first come, first served basis. So make sure to check on the activities as soon as possible to secure your spot.
Sports Activities: Bucks has a wide range of sports that you can join such as American football, basketball, cheerleading, cricket, hockey, golf, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball. By joining, you’ll have both the chance to compete in national leagues with other universities as well participate in non-competitive games.
Entertainment and events: Bucks has one of the best live entertainment and events for students. For this year, they have live music performances from awarded artists, a karaoke night, a comedy night, a weekly quiz, and more. They also have a Refreshers Festival wherein students can enjoy the freebies, the music and the stalls.
Student Societies: The university has a lot of student societies that will surely suit your interest or advocacy. Joining will allow you to experience exciting activities with other people who have similar interests. Your involvement will give you an opportunity to contribute and make a change to the society as well as work on your skills. Societies available at Bucks include Fashion, Music, Sports, and Spiritual building. Students are also welcome to start new societies if they can’t find a society that suits their interests.
Skills Workshops: Bucks offers the Additional Skills Training Programme to help students enhance their employability. Students will learn from these workshops relevant skills such as problem solving, decision making, verbal and written communication, leadership, networking, marketing, and organizational skills. The topics covered during the skills-workshops are suggested by the students. Currently, Bucks have sessions on how to conduct a literature review, how to start a society, Public speaking and First aid.
Student representatives: The university provides students the opportunity to represent their fellow students on activities concerning their welfare and studies. Student representatives are chosen by their classmates through an online election. For their work student representative can earn up to £100. They provide student’s feedback about their university education in university meetings, which helps in improving the quality of education. The university will provide the student representatives training and online resources to help them with their task.
