Macquarie University International College Foundation and Diploma Programmes

Meeting university requirements or equating academic qualifications can sometimes be challenging for international students. So Macquarie University provides a stepping-stone for those who fall into the academic grey area without having to compromise an international education.

Macquarie University International College was established by the university itself to provide pathway courses that prepare international students for their degree courses. It’s a chance to boosts academic and English skills before delving into a three-year degree. They offer Foundation and Diploma programmes to those who are at least 17 years old. Once the pathway programme is successfully completed and the entry requirements of that particular undergraduate degree are met, you can then proceed onto the degree at Macquarie University. You can choose from several undergraduate degrees in Arts, Business and Commerce, Science and Engineering.

Here are the foundation and diploma programmes offered by the college.

Foundation programmes 

Macquarie’s Foundation programmes lead to the Year 1 of an undergraduate degree at the university.

Standard Foundation Programme – If you have at least a Year 11 or equivalent academic qualification, you’ll need to enhance your academic skills before proceeding to a degree course. With this course you’ll cover English, Biology, Business Management and History. You must have an IELTS score of 5.5 (at least a 5.0 score in all bands).  Start date: November 2015, Duration: 32 Weeks or more

Extended Foundation Programme – For this course you’ll need at least a Year 11 or equivalent academic qualification and need to enhance their mathematics, English language and study skills. Aside from the relevant subjects you’ll also cover Australian Studies, Critical Thinking and University Studies. An IELTS score of 5.0 is required (at least a 5.0 score in all bands). Start date: 2016 (January and July intakes), Duration: 1 Year

Intensive Foundation Programme – This is for those who have a Year 12 or equivalent academic qualification and need to enhance their mathematics and English language skills. You must have an IELTS score of 6.0 (at least a 5.5 score in all bands). Start: September 2016, Duration: 16 weeks

Diploma programmes

Diplomas are equal to the 1st year of your undergraduate degree and once completed students move to year 2 of an undergraduate degree at the university. These are for international students who have a Year 12 or equivalent academic qualification and an IELTS score of 6.0 (at least a 5.5 score in all bands). All programmes will start in  March, May and October (2016) and run for 32 weeks or more.

Diploma of Accounting, Commerce and Business Administration – In this programme you’ll cover the basics of finance, marketing and management. You can proceed into the 2nd year of an undergrad in Applied Finance and Commerce.

Diploma of Engineering – In this programme you’ll cover theoretical and practical knowledge in several engineering subjects which include software engineering and computing. You can proceed to the 2nd year of an undergrad in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering.

Diploma of Information Technology – With this programme you’ll cover theoretical and practical knowledge in subjects such as programming, computer science, business systems, database design and digital media. You can then proceed to 2nd year of Bachelor of Information Technology or the Bachelor of Information Technology – Games Design and Development degrees.

Diploma of Media and Communication – In this programme you’ll cover the fundamentals in subject such as international communications, media, politics and international relations. With this programme you can proceed onto the 2nd year of an Arts undergraduate degree in either International Communication, International Relations or Media Culture and Communications
