If you missed the deadline for a UK university application or unable to meet the entry requirements of your chosen degree that does not mean you have lost your chance of getting into a university. Most of the universities in the UK

offer pathway programs which are alternative routes for international students. One of the best alternatives is the International Foundation Programme (IFP).

What is the International Foundation Programme (IFP)?

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a foundation course that prepares you for a full UK university degree. In this course you will gain the necessary know-how of how a UK university functions and bridge the gap between your qualifications and the university entry requirements for a full time degree. You will have the chance to see a lot of interesting places in the UK and meet students from around the world.

Benefits of doing the International Foundation Programme

The programme usually has two intakes a year (February and September) giving you the chance to choose when best to start. For non-English speakers or if English is your second lanuagage this is a highly recommended route as it includes classes that cater to improving your English language skill. For those that a worried about their IELTS scores, the entry requirement for an IFP are lower than a degree course.

Aside from English the course is catered to prep you in your chosen field of study. You can choose from a variety of pathways that are taught by specialist mentors who will help you enhance your competence in your chosen pathway before starting your degree.

This foundation tends to be a suitable fit for international students as it takes five months to a year to complete. Which is short compared to other foundation courses that can take up to two years. This intensive gives students the opportunity to cut on costs and have a concentered learning process. Most universities give assurance of advancement to a full three-year degree, if the programme is successfully completed.

The IFP at Bucks New University

There are several good universities in the UK that offer this Foundation Programme and one of those is Bucks New University. This is a full time course that is delivered at their High Wycombe campus. The duration of the programme is either September – June or February – June. The next intake is February 2015. This is a five-month intensive that can really prepare you or you child for university. The entry requirements for this course is a Grade 12 Certification and an IELTS score of 5.5 or above overall and in each area. They have very interesting and exciting degree courses that you can take if you successfully complete the programme. You can proceed onto courses in the university in areas such as Business and Management, Computing, Sports (at the university and its partner UFCB Wembley Stadium), Travel, Tourism and Aviation, Law, and Music.
